In the Car

This creative writing piece plays upon the ironies that punctuate the teaching of creative writing within prison walls. Set within a car journey to Rimutaka Prison for such a class, this piece dallies with possible reasons as to why such a maladaptive setting might work for learning of this kind. It reflects, in passing, upon the dynamic openness of narrated storylines when spoken not by those who speak for a living but, rather, by those who have learned to author. Even if (only) in prison.
